It can be frustrating and even frightening when your computer is not working properly. You may have instant thoughts of having to spend lots of money on repairs or possibly replacing your computer altogether. However, some of the most common problems faced by computer users can be fixed.
1. Computer is running slowly.
This usually has to do with a lack of maintenance on the user’s part. You can fix this by managing your programs (from your computer’s control panel) and running defragmenters to clean up your data registry. Following these steps can increase your computer speed by up to 30 percent.
2. Screen freezes and the dreaded “blue screen of death.”
These are often due to spyware issues. To troubleshoot, you will need to update your anti-spyware program on a daily basis. If your anti-spyware is already up to date, then update your hardware drivers. If your drivers aren’t up to date then your computer can’t communicate properly with various hardware components. Increasing virtual memory (RAM) can also help prevent screen freezes.
3. Your computer reboots spontaneously.
Most likely this is happening because of a power supply issue. It could be as simple as a power cable being loose and not plugged in properly. Or it might be that the power supply is dying. If the computer’s fan isn’t working properly, your computer might shut off in an effort to stay cool.
4. Odd sounds and vibrations.
These are usually hardware related. Chances are that one of your computer’s thousands of parts is loose and that is causing the sounds. However, this is an issue that might require outside help from a computer tech in order to repair it. If you know how to remove your computer’s case, you can do that and look to see what the source of the sound is. Then determine if it will need to go to a tech to be fixed.
